Description

I have had the reference book "Doughboy To GI : US Army Clothing And Equipment 1900 - 1945" since I was a kid.  I liked watching old War Movies and was interested in the stuff the soldiers were using.  My Grandfather was also in the Army Air Forces during WW2.  My Mom had three Uncles in the Marine Corps.  My reference book was mainly just photos of one guy's collection of militaria and didn't have an example of every US Military issued item.  Sometimes I see something not in my extensive reference book.  I have been trying to make an effort to study equipment from other periods and nations.

This set of photos shows a WW2 1945 dated Air Forces U.S. Army marked flashlight Type A-5.  The "Phila-45-54" has the 1945 date information, it is not 1954 dated.  Some Latter (DSA) and (DLA) stock numbers mostly have the date information in a double digit number with dashes on each side.  Some latter Vietnam era (DSA) stock numbers have the date information at the end of a long stock number without dashes.  Even more modern NATO marked used items have a "-00-" meaning it is United States Equipment. It is a black plastic like United States Navy types of flashlights.  It has a bendable extended lamp portion.  It was made by SMC in Philadelphia.

Here are links to more US Military flashlight information.

I show a bunch of information about WW2 to Vietnam War era US Military issue flashlights at :
