Description

I have had the reference book "Doughboy To GI : US Army Clothing And Equipment 1900 - 1945" since I was a kid.  I liked watching old War Movies and was interested in the stuff the soldiers were using.  My Grandfather was also in the Army Air Forces during WW2.  My Mom had three Uncles in the Marine Corps.  My reference book was mainly just photos of one guy's collection of militaria and didn't have an example of every US Military issued item.  Sometimes I see something not in my extensive reference book.  I have been trying to make an effort to study equipment from other periods and nations.

This set of photos shows a "Jacket, WAAC, Members, Winter."  It is dated May 30, 1943 and has the name "Dora Melton" stamped on the Quartermaster Tag with the military number "A-91260".  It is also marked on the inside of the jacket and the tag to the skirt.  The upper pockets are fake and have flaps with buttons just for looks.  There are two slanted hand warming pockets, the Quartermaster tag is in the right pocket.  There is a "US" collar disk and a Women's Army Corps Pallas Athene collar disk.  The unit patch on the arm is to the 9th Service Command.  According to my reference book the 9th Service Command served in the Western United States.   They were at Fort Douglas, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Washington.  There is also a Ruptured Duck discharge patch above the fake right upper pocket.  There is a side zipper and button on the waste of the skirt.  The zipper is damaged and has a safety pin closing it.  The jacket is for enlisted rank without shoulder epaulettes, officers would have jackets with shoulder epaulettes.
