Artist's Comments

I do not like how it came out. It had casting problems on the top.

i like how it came out :D im curious though..how do you cast bronze?
:iconnicholasweed:
Well, I took a photo of the better side. It would look worse if I took a close up photo. I am going to weld some bronze rod into areas to fill in some of the holes.

You make something out of wax and then invest it in a mixture of plaster, sand and water. You let the investment dry and cook it in a kiln to melt all the wax out. You then poor hot liquid bronze into the cavity. You need vents for the flow of the bronze. This one had flaws because not all of the wax melted out. It also could have sued some better vents at the top. I might try casting another one someday.

oh ok, thats kool. im sure it'll come out great :D

so the plaster, sand and water mixture is what you mean by "investment" right?
where do you get a kiln? ive been wanting to cast bronze for quite a while but dont have everything i need yet. especially the kiln.

im really wanting to make a mask....and idk..something else im sure..whatever i feel like doin i guess lol

Well, you would need a lot of stuff. I don’t do any of the bronze pours. You would need some special tools, a blast furnace to melt the bronze, a special kiln set up to melt the wax out of the investment. It is a lot of stuff.
