Description

I have had the reference book "Doughboy To GI : US Army Clothing And Equipment 1900 - 1945" since I was a kid.  I liked watching old War Movies and was interested in the stuff the soldiers were using.  My Grandfather was also in the Army Air Forces during WW2.  My Mom had three Uncles in the Marine Corps.  My reference book was mainly just photos of one guy's collection of militaria and didn't have an example of every US Military issued item.  Sometimes I see something not in my extensive reference book.

This set of photos shows a 1944 dated British Military Fullerphone Morse Code Radio.  I believe it is missing the antenna that would be held on the strap when not in use.  It had a pair of I think, 1941 dated headphones.  There are a few British War Ministry Broad Arrow proof marks on the straps, and elsewhere.  The boxed radio weighs around 14 pounds.  The lid locks with the use of the two side hooks.  Instructions for the use of the machine are on the inside of the lid.  I read that this type of machine was invented by a Major Fuller in 1916.  He was in the British Signal corps and was promoted to a General.  The Fullerphone shown here is a M-1939 version.  I read that it takes a Fullerphone to intercept messages from another Fullerphone, so they were good communication devices that prevented people from listening in.  They were used in the Trenches in WW1 and also were used on Submarines in WW2.
